Louisville’s Garcia, Wake Forest’s Kozniuk recognized
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville junior midfielder Elisa Garcia and Wake Forest midfielder/back Anna Kozniuk have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Players of the Week after leading their teams to conference upsets over the weekend.
Garcia was instrumental in both of Lousville’s wins over ranked opponents. The native of Santiago, Chile, scored the second goal of the game as the Cardinals withstood a late attack to defeat No. 4 Duke, 2-1. On Sunday against No. 15 Michigan, Garcia assisted the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Louisville went on to defeat the Wolverines, 2-1, in the second extra period.
Kozniuk led the Demon Deacons to a win over No. 8 Boston College, the first conference victory of the season for Wake Forest. Against the Eagles, the native of North Vancouver, Canada, scored the first of the match for the Demon Deacons at 22:48 to tie it at 1-1. In overtime, she took a pass from Jess Newak and scored the game winner to give Wake Forest the 4-3 victory.
