ACC Continues Strong Showing In Learfield Directors’ Cup

Eight conference schools place among the top 30; 12 ranked among the top 60

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference schools rank among the top 30 of the 2015-16 Learfield Directors’ Cup Division I Standings following the completion of the fall and winter sports seasons.

The ACC has three schools among the top 10 and leads all conferences with eight schools ranked among the top 30. Twelve ACC schools rank among the top 60, while 14 of the conference’s 15 schools earned sports among the top 100.

NCAA runner-up finishes by North Carolina in men’s basketball, Syracuse in women’s basketball and Boston College in women’s ice hockey were among the top showings in winter sports by ACC member schools. ACC schools posted a total of 20 top-10 finishes in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, fencing, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, wrestling and men’s and women’s ice hockey.

North Carolina holds sixth place in the overall scoring with 628 points and is joined in the top 10 by Notre Dame in seventh place with 594, Syracuse in 10th with 586.5 and Virginia in 11th with 583.75.

NC State holds 22nd place with 478 points, while Duke is 23rd with 467.5, Louisville tied for 25th with 453 and Virginia Tech is 27th at 432.5.

Florida State (33rd place with 410) and Boston College (38th with 393) round out the ACC’s representation among the top 40. Clemson ranks 52nd (288.5 points), Miami 57th (271), Pitt 85th (157), Wake Forest 100th (125.5) and Georgia Tech 157th (66.5).

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's. 

The first standings of the spring sports season will be released on Thursday, June 2.
