Craig and Zeuch earn ACC Weekly Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest’s Will Craig has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Pitt’s T.J. Zeuch was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Craig hit .562 to lead the Demon Deacons to a 3-1 week with a win over UNC Greensboro and a series victory against Virginia Tech to open ACC play. He hit three home runs, including his first career grand slam on Saturday and his first multi-homer game on Sunday against the Hokies. For the week, he drove in seven runs on nine hits with an on-base percentage of .650 and a slugging percentage of 1.375.
A native of Johnson City, Tennessee, Craig leads the league in average, RBIs, doubles, slugging, total bases, and is one off the lead in home runs and runs scored. He has reached base in 20 straight games dating back to last year, and has an active nine-game hitting streak.
Zuech outdueled Virginia preseason All-American Nathan Kirby to help Pitt defeat the top-ranked Cavaliers, 1-0, on Saturday, the first loss for Virginia this season. He was masterful in his eight innings of shutout ball, striking out eight batters, issuing no walks and scattering just four hits. The Mason, Ohio, native didn't allow a hit or base runner until the fourth inning, with only two players reaching second base all game.
It was the third time this season in four starts that Zeuch has stuck out at least eight batters and walked none, giving him a strikeout to walk ratio of 32:1 that not only leads the ACC but is tops in the country for pitchers with at least 30 strikeouts.
