Biggio and Clark earn ACC Weekly Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame’s Cavan Biggio has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Duke’s Bailey Clark was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Biggio continued his hot start to the season in helping the Irish sweep the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio. He hit .533 with eight hits, six RBIs, three doubles, and five runs. He earned five walks for an on-base percentage of .667 over the weekend and posted a .733 slugging percentage. The native of Houston, Texas, led the team in average, hits, RBIs, walks as the Irish improved to 7-1 on the season.
Clark (1-0) was dominant from start to finish against Iona in his second career start. The right-hander needed just 85 pitches to toss eight scoreless innings, strike out a career-high 11 batters and earn his first career win. His 11 strikeouts were the most by a Duke pitcher since Michael Matuella fanned 12 on May 4, 2014, against Longwood.
The native of Asheville, North Carolina, faced the minimum in six of his eight innings, allowing just three singles and one walk. He registered at least one strikeout in every frame, including two strikeouts in the first, sixth and seventh innings. The Gaels never really threatened against him, and only one Iona baserunner moved into scoring position for the game.
