Virginia’s Randolph, Duke’s Stevens earn final honors of 2014-15 season
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia junior guard Faith Randolph has been selected as the final ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week by the Blue Ribbon Panel, while Duke’s Azurá Stevens earned the season’s final ACC Freshman of the Week honors.
Randolph scored 23 points and handed out eight assists in Virginia’s upset win over No. 8 Louisville on Sunday. In two games last week, Randolph averaged made 14 field goals (including 6-of-8 from 3-point range) with 13 assists. The Derwood, Maryland, native was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line against Louisville, helping to cement the Cavaliers’ upset victory and nail down the No. 9 seed in the upcoming ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Randolph’s performance on Sunday followed a 24-point effort at North Carolina earlier in the week in which she went 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-of-5 from the foul line.
Duke’s Stevens closed the week with a game-high 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds against 15th-ranked North Carolina as the Blue Devils finished the regular season with an 81-80 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native also had three assists, two blocks and one steal, while hitting 8-of-14 field goals. For the week, she averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks. At Georgia Tech, Stevens had 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. With her eight double-doubles on the season, she ranks third on the Duke all-time freshman list. She also ranks tied second on the school freshman charts with 10 games with double-digit rebounds. Her 386 points on the season ranks sixth on the Duke freshman list.
