ACC Announces Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

Louisville’s Hines-Allen, Virginia Tech’s Hicks recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( – Louisville’s Myisha Hines-Allen has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season. Virginia Tech’s Chanette Hicks received ACC Rookie of the Week honors. ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Hines-Allen averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the seventh-ranked Cardinals, including her ninth double-double of the season. After scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds in a road win at No. 17 Miami, the Montclair, New Jersey, sophomore came back with 25 points and 13 rebounds in Sunday’s win over Pitt that closed the regular season.

Hines-Allen handed out four assists in the win over Miami and shot 11-of-14 from the floor win 28 minutes against Pitt. She shot 92 percent for the week at the foul line, making 12-of-13 from the line.

Hicks keyed Virginia Tech to a road win at Wake Forest, followed by a home victory over rival Virginia. The latter win marked the first time in program history that the Hokies have completed a regular-season sweep of the Cavaliers. Hicks had 15 points and six rebounds in the win at Wake Forest, followed by a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds in the victory over Virginia.

Hicks, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, shot nearly 69 percent from the floor for the week (11-of-16) while sinking 12-of-13 free throws.

The 39th annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will tip off on Wednesday, March 2 at 1 p.m., and will conclude with the Championship game on Sunday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m.
