Florida State’s Powers, Virginia Tech’s Tyler honored
The honors are the second of the season for Powers, who was also named ACC Player of the Week on February 29. Tyler was named Pitcher of the Week for the first time this year.
Powers excelled at the plate and in the field as the Seminoles swept North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Powers batted .667 on the weekend with a home run, six RBI and five runs scored as Florida State extended its NCAA-leading winning streak to 21 games. The Melbourne, Florida, native posted a .917 slugging percentage and had an on-base percentage of .667 as she added two walks and two stolen bases without recording a strikeout. Powers had multiple hits in all three games, including three hits in both games of Saturday's doubleheader. She was also perfect in the field, committing zero errors in 26 defensive chances at first base.
Virginia Tech’s Tyler followed up on her no-hitter of last weekend with a pair of complete-game, one-hit shutouts as the Hokies posted a series win over visiting Georgia Tech. The Poquoson, Virginia, native allowed just three total hits and two walks through 14 innings in the circle. Tyler struck out 12 batters in Friday’s 1-0 win over the Yellow Jackets, then followed up with a nine-strikeout performance in a 5-0 Virginia Tech victory on Saturday.
