Syracuse sweeps final honors for 2015 season
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse senior Juris Silenieks has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for the 2015 season, while Orange sophomore Mary Malone earned ACC Women’s Performer of the Week honors.
Both runners are natives of Pittsburgh and competed for the same high school (North Hills) before arriving at Syracuse.
Silenieks won the men’s 8k race with a time of 24:33.7, six seconds over teammate Nick Ryan at the Orange’s final regular-season meet. The win was the second individual victory of Silenieks’ career after winning the Harry Lang Invitational in 2013. Silenieks led seven Syracuse runners in the top-10, including those who ran unattached.
Malone won her first collegiate race on Friday by a wide margin. With a first-place time of 17:39.3, she took home a 32-second victory over Cornell’s Jessica Elliott, who placed second.
Atlantic Coast Conference cross country teams will now turn their attention to the 2015 ACC Championships, which will be held this Friday (Oct. 30) at Tallahassee, Florida.
