ACC Announces Cross Country Performers of the Week

Syracuse’s Knight and Malone honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse sophomore Justyn Knight has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Orange senior Margo Malone claimed ACC Women’s Performer of the Week honors.

Knight won his debut race of the 2015 season at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Boston. The Vaughan, Ontario, native paced three Orange runners in the top-four and five in the top-10, pulling away from the pack down the stretch to win the race by 1.6 seconds over Purdue’s Matt McClintock. Syracuse cruised to the overall team win by 42 points over second-place Dartmouth, with the lone other ranked team in the race – ACC opponent Florida State – taking seventh.

Malone took second overall in the women’s Coast-to-Coast Battle, finishing one second behind Christina Melian of Stony Brook for the overall win. The Pittsburgh native led Syracuse to a second-place team finish (two spots ahead of No. 4 Georgetown) in a race that featured five ranked teams. No. 8 Providence led the overall team scoring.
