NC State’s Frazier, Louisville’s Kipkoech, FSU’s Seddon honored
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State freshman Ryen Frazier has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Performer of the Week, while Louisville’s Japhet Kipkoech and Florida State’s Zak Seddon claimed ACC Men’s Cross Country Co-Performer of the Week honors.
Frazier was also recognized by the USTFCCCA as the NCAA Division I Women’s National Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
A Raleigh, North Carolina, native running just a few miles from home at Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Park, Frazier opened her collegiate career in style by winning the adidas XC Challenge and breaking the 5k-course record with a time of 16:06.4. Frazier's time broke the previous course record by 22 seconds. As a high school senior last year, Frazier finished eighth at the WakeMed course while running unattached, finishing in 17:37.0. Her time this year marks a 1:31 improvement from last year.
Kipkoech led the Cardinals to a first place finish at the Commodore Classic. Kipkoech notched his first collegiate win, finishing the 8K with a time of 24:34.6. He finished with a season best 8K time and defeated teammate and All-American Edwin Kibichiy by a second. Kipkoech has led the Cardinals in both races this season, helping Louisville to two wins
Florida State’s Seddon recorded his first win of the season, edging teammate Stanley Linton by less than a second to claim the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational title in 24:50.59 over the 8000-meter Buford Meredith Cross Country Course. It was the third career cross country victory for the Reading, Great Britain native, and his second at the meet. The FSU senior co-captain opened his collegiate career by winning the 2012 meet title, and he was second last year in Blacksburg.
