ACC Announces Basketball Players of the Week

Virginia’s Brogdon, Florida State’s Bacon recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( – Virginia senior Malcolm Brogdon has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Florida State’s Dwayne Bacon earned his fifth ACC Rookie of the Week recognition.

ACC basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel.

Brogdon averaged 27 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals as No. 3 Virginia went 1-1 against a pair of ranked opponents. The Atlanta native tallied 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Cavaliers to a 79-74 win over then-No. 7 North Carolina on Saturday. Earlier in the week at Miami, he matched a career high with 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting (4-of-7 on threes) in the Cavaliers’ 64-61 road loss.

For the week, Brogdon shot 61.8 percent from the field (21-of-34), 58.3 percent from 3-point range (7-of-12) and 100 percent from the free throw line (5-of-5). He has made 34 consecutive free throws and has 15 games this season with 20-or-more points.

Bacon recorded his fourth career double double, averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, shot .545 from the field and .667 from the 3-point line as Florida State split a pair of games, with the win coming against No. 20 Notre Dame. He totaled 21 points against the Fighting Irish – a scoring total that gave him 11 games of 20 or more points scored – an ongoing freshmen record at Florida State.

The Lakeland, Florida, native made 7-of-11 shots from the floor against Notre Dame and sank all four of his free-throw attempts while helping the Seminoles take early control of the game. Fourteen of Bacon’s points came in the first half. Earlier in the week at Duke, Bacon posted his fourth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in his first trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium as a college player.
