ACC and Wounded Warrior Project® Team Up at ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament

Local veterans recognized at semifinal and championship games.

GREENSBORO, NC – The Atlantic Coast Conference will honor America by welcoming and recognizing the men and women of the Armed Forces during the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinal and championship games.

The ACC will welcome 30 soldiers from Fort Bragg and their families to the semifinal games on Saturday, March 5. The ACC will recognize and honor the soldiers on the court prior to the National Anthem of the noon game, and the group will enjoy hospitality in The Vu Lounge.

In addition, the ACC is once again collaborating with Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) to invite WWP injured service members and their guests to the championship game on Sunday, March 6. Two Warriors and family members will participate in the event. All guests will enjoy hospitality and game tickets, and Warriors will be recognized on court during a pregame ceremony while the colors are presented by the Grimsley High School JROTC. Following the ceremony, veterans in the Heart of Carolinas Chorus will perform the National Anthem.

This marks the 11th year of the ACC and WWP combining forces for championship events. In addition to the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, the ACC and WWP team up for the ACC Football Championship Game, ACC Tournament, ACC Baseball Championship and other ACC Championships every year.

Wounded Warrior Project® is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. With the goal of making a positive, lasting impact on the lives of injured service members, WWP is the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs.
