Virginia Tech’s Vincent Named ACC Men’s Golfer of the Month for September

Hokies’ junior opens season with pair of tournament wins.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech junior Scott Vincent has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month after placing first in both of the events in which he participated during September.

Vincent earned medalist honors in both the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Burlington, Iowa (Sept. 15-17) and the VCU Shootout at Manakin-Sobot, Va. (Sept. 23-24). Four of Vincent’s rounds were par or better, including a 64 in the final round of the Golfweek Challenge that matched the current Virginia Tech school record first set in 2002 by current PGA Tour player Johnson Wagner.

The back-to-back tournament wins by Vincent tied another school record first set by current PGA Tour and President’s Cup team member Brendon de Jonge in the fall of 2000.

Vincent’s first-place tying score of 210 in the three-day Golfweek Conference Challenge came against a field that featured two opposing teams ranked among the nation’s top 10 and four ranked among the nation’s top 25 by both the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll and by Golfweek/Sagarin.

The Harare, Zimbabwe, native followed up with a score of 206 in the VCU Shootout, an effort which earned him Golfweek Player of the Week honors.
