Syracuse Men, Florida State Women, top Coaches’ Preseason ACC Predictions

Six Men’s and Five Women’s Teams ranked in the USTFCCCA preseason poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( - The Syracuse men and Florida State women's cross country teams were selected to win 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference titles, respectively, in a vote by the league's head coaches. The Orange, along with Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, will be making their ACC debut this fall after having captured the Big East title a year ago for their third conference crown in four years, while the Seminole women have won five consecutive ACC titles.

In the men's poll, Syracuse received 10 first-place votes and 191 total points. Virginia was second with two first-place votes and 163 points. Florida State picked up the two remaining first-place votes and edged NC State by three points, 159-to-156, for third place. Notre Dame was fifth with 150 points, followed by Duke (124), defending ACC champion Virginia Tech (118), North Carolina (95), Wake Forest (81), Georgia Tech (60), Clemson (59), Boston College (49), Pittsburgh (31) and Miami (20).

On the women's side, in the narrowest of voting, Florida State tallied eight first-place votes and edged Duke by one point (213-to-212) for the top spot. The Blue Devils garnered six first-place votes. Notre Dame had one first-place vote among its 188 points to finish third. NC State was fourth with 174 points, followed by Syracuse (167), Boston College (149), Virginia (137), North Carolina (133), Wake Forest (102), Virginia Tech (88), Clemson (79), Georgia Tech (59), Maryland (49), Pittsburgh (32), Miami (18).

The ACC is well-represented in the USTFCCCA preseason poll released earlier this week as six men’s and five women’s teams earned Top 30 recognition.

Syracuse leads the way on the men’s side with a No. 9 ranking, followed by Virginia 17th, Florida State 21st, Notre Dame 22nd, NC State 25th and Duke 30th.

Florida State is the highest-ranked ACC women’s team with a No. 2 ranking, while Duke is close behind at No. 4. Notre Dame is 18th, NC State 22nd and Boston College 25th.
