Syracuse’s Donahue and Virginia’s Barrett Named @ACCMLax Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse redshirt sophomore attackman Dylan Donahue and Virginia freshman goalie Matt Barrett have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference.

Donahue totaled 14 points on 11 goals and three assists to lead the Orange to a pair of wins last week. Against Siena, Donahue scored a career-high eight goals, one short of the school record, and the most for an SU player in a season-opening game. He added an assist to finish with a personal-best nine points in the contest. The Camillus, N.Y., native posted a perfect shooting percentage as his eight goals came on eight shots.

Donahue followed it up with his seventh career hat trick in SU’s 17-16 overtime win against No. 10 Albany. He also was credited with two assists against the Great Danes.

Barrett saved a career-high 16 shots in the Cavaliers’ 11-10 win at Drexel.  The Glenmoore, Pa., native registered his second to last decisive save while the score was knotted at 10 goals apiece with less than two minutes to play. That save led to the final Virginia possession where teammate Mark Cockerton scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in the game.

Barrett made six saves during a critical 6-0 Virginia run over 23:52 in the third and fourth quarters. The rookie also picked up six ground balls for the game.

ACC men’s lacrosse action continues Friday, Feb. 21 with No. 1/2 Duke hosting No. 16/18 Penn.
