Six @ACCMGolf Teams Earn NCAA Bids

ACC Champion Georgia Tech earns No. 1 seed in Raleigh Regional

GREENBORO, N.C. – Six Atlantic Coast Conference teams and two individuals have earned bids to the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, the selection committee announced Monday morning.

Georgia Tech, which captured the ACC Championship a week ago, was named the No. 1 seed in the Raleigh Regional, which will be hosted by NC State at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club. The Yellow Jackets, ranked fifth nationally in last week’s Golfstat rankings, will be joined in Raleigh by 17th-ranked Florida State and 45th-ranked Wake Forest. The Seminoles are seeded third while the Demon Deacons are eighth.

Virginia and Virginia Tech are the No. 2 seeds in their respective regionals, the highest in both programs’ histories. The 11th-ranked Cavaliers will compete in Columbia, Missouri, at The Club at Old Hawthorne, while 12th-ranked Virginia Tech will be at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Alabama.

Clemson, ranked 33rd nationally, is making its 33rd consecutive appearance in the tournament and is the No. 6 seed in Sugar Grove, Illinois, at Rich Harvest Farms.

Two ACC golfers – Notre Dame’s Niall Platt and Maryland’s Sean Bosdosh – were selected to compete as individuals. Platt is the top seed in Sugar Grove, while Bosdosh is seeded ninth in Raleigh.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 15-17.  Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. Wichita State is the host institution for the 2014 championships.
