North Carolina’s Shealy Named ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week

Senior forward led Tar Heels to two ranked victories

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina forward Loren Shealy has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week after leading the Tar Heels to two victories in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge over the weekend. 

Shealy scored a goal and registered an assist in each game as the Tar Heels opened the season with a pair of ranked wins. Against No. 17 Michigan on Saturday, Shealy scored UNC’s third goal in a 5-1 win. In the 22nd minute of play, she grabbed a rebound off a Michigan player and shot to put the Tar Heels up 3-0. She assisted on the next goal, a penalty corner, to put UNC up 4-0 right after halftime.

On Sunday, the native of Charlotte, N.C., scored the game winner just 21 seconds into the match. Three minutes later, she assisted on a penalty corner goal that put the Tar Heels up 2-0 in the fourth minute of play. After that early lead, UNC went on to beat No. 20 Iowa 4-1 and open the season 2-0.
