Duke’s Juliet Bottorff recognized after shattering 28-year-old school record
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke distance runner Julia Bottorff has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Track and Field Performer of the Week.
Bottorff broke a 28-year old school record after clocking a time of 32:25.69 in section one of the women’s 10,000 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Stanford, Calif., on Sunday. Coming off a first-place finish at the ACC Championship in the same event two weeks earlier, Bottorff bested the previous Duke record of 32:40.70, which Ellen Reynolds set in 1986.
In a field comprised mostly of professional runners, Bottorff posted the third-best time among 10,000-meter NCAA Division I competitors this season. The Newark, Del., graduate student’s time finishing time set a personal record by over 28 seconds.
