NC State’s Colley, Florida State’s Zagre recognized after standout efforts
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State senior Andrew Colley has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for the second time this season, while Florida State junior Anne Zagre claimed ACC Female Performer of the Week honors.
The Wolfpack’s Colley, of Williamsburg, Va., emerged from last weekend’s Blue Shoes Collegiate Track and Field Meet’s Elite with the nation’s second-best time in the 1,500 meters (3:41.61) and NC State’s all-time leader in the mile (3:59.34). Competing among a talented field at the Greenville, S.C., event, Colley became the first Wolfpack runner to finish the mile in less than four minutes, breaking the previous school mark of 4:00.05 set in 1973 by Jim Wilkins.
Florida State’s Zagre captured the 100-meter hurdle and 200-meter dash titles Saturday at the Seminole Invitational with ACC-leading times in both events. Zagre posted the sixth-fastest time in NCAA Division I this season, winning the hurdles in 13.04. It was the 2012 Olympian and Belgium national champion’s fastest collegiate performance since running 13.00 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last spring. The Brussels, Belgium, native came back a short time later with a personal-best time of 23.31 to win the 200-meter dash, with a mark that ranks tied for 14th in Division I. Zagre was the lone two-event winner on the track for the Seminoles in their ACC Outdoor Championships tune-up.
The 2014 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held this Thursday through Saturday (April 17 through 19) at North Carolina’s Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
