Reaney captures third ACC honor of the season

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( – After efforts that helped the Notre Dame swimming and diving teams defeat the No. 23 Wisconsin men’s swimming & diving team and the No. 24 Wisconsin women’s swimming & diving team, the Fighting Irish’s Joe Coumos, Allison Casareto, Emma Reaney and Frank Dyer swept this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Weekly Awards.

Coumos earned Male Diver of the Week after his performance against the Badgers, as well as Michigan State on Nov. 15. The freshman from Tomball, Texas, recorded NCAA zone standard scores of 331.35 in the 1-meter and 340.43 3-meter against the Spartans. Against Wisconsin the next afternoon, Coumos bested those scores with marks of 335.10 on the 1-meter board and 381.52 on the 3-meter board. The scores were enough to record three first-place finishes on the weekend.

Casareto, the Female Swimmer of the Week, grabbed honors after she notched three first-place finishes on her way to Female Diver of the Week honors. Against Valparaiso on Nov. 15, she posted NCAA zone standard scores of 295.80 on the 1-meter and 361.20 on the 3-meter. The next afternoon, the junior from La Habra Heights, Calif., bested her 1-meter score with a 321.40 and posted a 3-meter score of 329.40.

Reaney, who garnered her third ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honor this season, continued her strong junior campaign with five individual event wins and a relay victory. In the 100 breaststroke, the two-time All-American notched a ‘B’ cut time of 1:02.04. After the weekend’s action, the Lawrence, Kan., native ranks first in the ACC in both breast events and in the top 10 nationally in both events.

The Male Swimmer of the Week, Dyer, posted a total of six first-place efforts against the Badgers and the Spartans. He was also a member of Friday’s victorious 200 medley relay team, and Saturday’s ‘A’ entry in the event that swam the fastest team time in the event (1:29.14) this season. He is also ranked in the national top 20 of the 100, 200 and 500 free events this season.
