GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maryland sophomore midfielder Taylor Cummings and North Carolina defender Sloan Serpe have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Cummings scored eight goals and added five assists for 13 points in a 2-0 week to keep the Terrapins unbeaten in 2014. In a 14-3 win over Hofstra to start the week, Cummings posted a hat trick and four assists in addition to a steady defensive effort where she helped hold the Pride to only three goals. She also added two ground balls, one caused turnover and five draw controls at Hofstra.
The native of Ellicott City, Md., followed that up with a season-high five goals and racked up seven draw controls in a dominant 19-10 win at No. 6 Duke.
Serpe marked a pair of top scorers last week in Notre Dame’s Courtney Fortunato and Penn’s Iris Williamson, while helping the Tar Heels to back-to-back wins over the Fighting Irish, 19-9, and the Quakers, 13-8. Fortunato was limited to just two goals on seven shots with two turnovers overall, with only one goal coming against Serpe. Penn’s Williamson did not score under Serpe’s watch and was held to one goal on six shots.
ACC women’s lacrosse action continues with three games on Wednesday, March 5.
