This Week’s Show Spotlights Florida State Heisman Trophy Winner Charlie Ward and North Carolina Record-Setting Return Specialist Ryan Switzer
Charlotte, N.C. – Raycom Sports’ multi-Emmy Award-winning summer television series, “Havoline Football Saturdays,” begins its eleventh season this weekend. The series, with six one-hour episodes, is hosted by Tim Brando and syndicated in 92 markets throughout the country.
This week’s show will highlight 1993 Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward from Florida State. The two-sport athlete led the Seminoles to the 1993 National Championship in football and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in basketball. The son of a football coach, he revolutionized the fast break offense on the football field for legendary coach Bobby Bowden. Surprisingly, Ward did not play in the NFL. He was drafted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft and ended up playing 11 years of pro ball. We catch up with the Seminole legend back on the field coaching high school football.
Go home to Charleston, W.V. with Ryan Switzer. The North Carolina wide receiver and punt returner had a dream season as a freshman. He earned first-team All-ACC honors after tying an NCAA record with five punt return touchdowns, including one in the Belk Bowl when he was named MVP of the game. Hear from Switzer and his family about how playing with a chip on his shoulder has helped him exceed expectations.
