League ties for national-best 10 draftees
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer players were chosen in the third and fourth rounds of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, which were held by conference call on Tuesday afternoon.
Wake Forest senior defender Tolani Ibikunkle was the highest player taken on the second day of the draft, going 11th in the third round and 49th pick overall to the Colorado Rapids. NC State senior midfielder Alex Martinez, the 57th overall selection in the draft, was chosen by Sporting Kansas City.
The Philadelphia Union claimed senior midfielder Luca Gimenez early in the fourth round with the 63rd pick, the fourth Demon Deacon to be selected in the draft. Virginia Tech senior defender Devante Dubose is headed to the San Jose Earthquakes after being selected with the 66th pick.
Ten ACC players were selected in the four rounds of the MLS SuperDraft, tied with the Pac-12 as the most from any conference. The first two rounds were held on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia, Pa.
