Carmona, Walch Receive Their First Awards of the Season
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State volleyball senior Elise Walch and freshman Izzy Carmona were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, following their efforts in two Seminole victories that tied them atop the Conference standings and stretched the team’s winning streak to five.
Walch led Florida State in kills per set and hitting percentage during an impressive week. Against then Conference-leading Miami, Walch recorded 17 kills and boasted a .448 hitting percentage. In a sweep of Notre Dame, the rightside hitter from the Stuart, Fla., notched 12 kills and posted a .556 hitting percentage. Walch has reached double-digit kill totals in 11 of her 17 matches played this season, and in conference play, she is hitting .330.
Carmona, a rightside hitter, had the best week of her young Seminole career against the Hurricanes and the Fighting Irish. In the closing stages of Florida State’s 3-1 win over Miami, Carmona was the Seminoles’ go-to option, as she established career highs in kills (15), hitting percentage (.500) and blocks (5) versus the Hurricanes. For the week, the Titusville, Fla., native committed just four attack errors in 48 swings. Carmona now has three matches with double-digit kills this season, with two coming in her last two matches.
