GT’s Kaela Davis collects her third Rookie of the Week honor
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior guard Tricia Liston has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Georgia Tech freshman guard Kaela Davis has been tabbed the ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Liston earned her second career ACC Player of the Week honor after averaging 21.5 points, while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor and 70.0 percent from long range in a 2-0 week for the Blue Devils. She registered 21 points and career-high 12 rebounds to lead Duke to a 90-55 win over Virginia, and followed that performance up with 22 points and six rebounds in a 74-70 victory at Virginia Tech. The River Forest, Ill., native has recorded nine games of 20-or-more points this season.
Davis earned her league-leading third ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season as she averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 3-pointers per game for the Yellow Jackets in a 1-1 week. Davis led Georgia Tech in scoring in both games last week, including 23 points in the Yellow Jackets’ 79-63 win over Wake Forest and 27 points in a 92-81 loss at No. 6 Maryland where she scored 16 points in the first half, helping the Jackets to a 44-43 lead at halftime. Davis has led Georgia Tech in scoring a team-high 10 times this season.
ACC women’s basketball action continues tonight as No. 2 Notre Dame plays at No. 11 Tennessee live on ESPN2 and Clemson hosts Wake Forest on regional sports networks. Both games tip-off at 7 p.m.
