GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior midfielder Crystal Dunn has been named the ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday. It is Dunn’s second weekly honor of the season after earning Co-Player of the Week accolades on Aug. 27.
Dunn was named the most valuable offensive player of the 2013 Duke Nike Classic as she scored in both of the Tar Heels’ wins over ranked foes. Dunn scored in the 79th minute of play to lead North Carolina to a 1-0 victory over No. 3/2 UCLA on Sept. 6, and struck again in a 4-2 victory against No. 19/9 West Virginia on Sept. 8. Her play in the attacking center midfield position also helped UNC dominate possession in both games as North Carolina outshot the Bruins, 23-6, and the Mountaineers, 19-3.
The Rockville Centre, N.Y., native owns six goals through five games this season. Dunn missed the Heels’ game against Kennesaw State due to a call-up to the United States Women’s National Team, where she earned the start assignment at right back and helped the U.S. defeat Mexico, 7-0, on Sept. 3. It was Dunn’s seventh U.S. National Team cap and her fifth start.
Conference play kicks off Thursday, Sept. 12 with all 14 ACC teams in action.
