Countdown to #ACCTipoff: Boston College Eagles

  • •  BC Head Coach Erik Johnson enters his second season at the Heights. Johnson helped the Eagles improve to a 12-19 record and earn a first round ACC Tournament victory over Virginia last season.
  • •  BC's overall schedule pits the Eagles against 13 teams that competed in post-season tournaments including Notre Dame and Duke, which was the final of the Norfolk Regional last season. BC will also play two teams from the Big Ten - Iowa on Nov. 29 and Wisconsin on Dec. 5; and two teams from the PAC-12 - Stanford in the season opener on Nov. 11 and USC on Nov. 30.
  • •  Boston College returns three starters to the lineup this season – seniors forward Katie Zenevitch (12.1 ppg., 6.6 rpg.), senior guard/forward Kristen Doherty (12.3 ppg., 5.8 rpg.) and sophomore guard Nicole Boudreau (11.1 ppg., 71 three-pointers), who was named to the ACC All-Rookie team last season.

  • •  It’s a BC twin thing – junior Lauren Engeln has a twin sister Ashley, who plays basketball at Concordia. Freshman Nicole Boudreau has a twin sister Danielle, who is a sophomore at Boston University. Junior Kat Cooper has a twin sister Chelsea, who is in her third year at the University of Washington. BC Assistant Coach Lisa Faulkner has a twin brother, Matt. And freshman Kelly Hughes has a twin sister Lauren, who attends Lafayette in Pennsylvania.
  • •  Red-shirt freshman Amber Cooper took a long road to Boston College. She started her high school career at Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, Louisiana. After, she moved to Texas and played at Saint Agnes Academic in Houston, Texas. She then moved to California to live with her grandmother and played at Vacaville Christian School for her senior season.
  • •  From the time Kristen Doherty arrived at the Heights she has been a jack-of-all trades for the Eagles. Doherty, a native of Holtsville, NY, led the Eagles in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and steals (48) last season. She was second in assists and rebounds. Doherty is just 44 points away from 1,000 points and has led BC in steals in her first three seasons. She is the first player in program history to lead the team in steals three straight seasons since Ann Odoy accomplished the feat four straight seasons (1984-1988). Odoy is the all-time leader in steals with 287. Doherty is currently in seventh place on the list with 161.
  • •  Boston College was the No. 1 free throw shooting team in the ACC and finished 45th in the country. Senior Katie Zenevitch led the team, the ACC and placed 69th in the country with an 81.6 free throw percentage.
  • •  Senior center Katie Zenevitch has had a busy fall. The senior from Methuen, Mass., is student teaching this semester at a local elementary school. So it has become routine to see Zenevitch briskly walking into Conte Forum all-dressed up coming from class and within 10 minutes, is decked out in her Under Armour practice gear ready to hit the hardwood by 3:30 every day. When asked about her teaching experience, Zenevitch will flash her beautiful big smile and will proudly brag about her students. She is destined to become a great teacher.
