Brian and Dunn lead UVa and UNC, respectively, to 2-0 weeks
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Virginia junior midfielder Morgan Brian and North Carolina Senior midfielder Crystal Dunn have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.
Brian was named the Klockner Classic Tournament MVP after totaling five points on one goal and three assists in the Cavaliers wins over No. 16/9 Santa Clara (4-0) and VCU (4-2) last weekend. Brian, who was recently named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, opened the 2013 season with two assists against VCU on Aug. 23 and followed up with a goal and an assist against the Broncos.
Dunn, the reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner, also earned All-Tournament honors at the Klockner Classic while scoring three goals and leading the Tar Heels to shutout wins over Santa Clara (2-0) and VCU (4-0). Dunn scored North Carolina’s two goals, both in the second half, against the Broncos and provided an insurance goal in the 4-0 rout of the Rams. The senior from Rockville, N.Y., keyed an overall defensive effort that led to two clean sheets and only 10 total shots against the Tar Heels in the two games combined.
The Co-Player of the Week honors are the first of both Brian’s and Dunn’s careers.
ACC teams continue action on Wednesday, Aug. 28 with Pittsburgh playing at Ohio State and Boston College hosting Connecticut.
