GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College junior midfielder Mikaela Rix and senior defender Kate McCarthy have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Rix totaled a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist in the Eagles season-opening 15-10 victory at No. 11 Notre Dame. Rix scored four of her six goals in the second half, including two during a 4-0 Boston College run that sealed the win for the Eagles.
The Garden City, N.Y., product also contributed a ground ball, two draw controls, and a caused turnover in the game.
McCarthy led the Boston College defense with four draw controls and four groundballs, while pulling the assignment of defending Notre Dame’s leading scorer Courtney Fortunato. McCarthy held Fortunato, who recorded seven points in ND’s win over Cincinnati on Feb. 12, to one goal on three shots. The Longmeadow, Mass., native was also key in transition for the Eagles, coming up with loose balls and successfully clearing the ball into BC’s offensive end.
