Eagles win Heat, Semifinals and Finals of the Knecht Cup
GREENSBORO, N.C.—Boston College’s Second Varsity Eight crew captured three straight races at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden N.J., including the Grand Final Sunday of the Women’s Second Varsity Eight competition to be named the ACC’s Rowing Crew of the Week.
The Eagles posted a time in the Grand Final of 6:48.94 to outdistance a field that included Bucknell (6:49.88), Fordham (6:52.34), Drexel (6:54.65), Tulsa (6:55.69) and Wisconsin lwt. (6:58.08).
Boston College’s Second Varsity Eight crew is composed of coxswain Kate Votta (Wallingford, Pa.), Maggie Hanlon (Washington, D.C.), Emma Metzger (Seattle, Wash.), Maclaine Sisco (Ridgewood, N.J.), Makenzy Brown (Seattle, Wash.) , Megan Carney (Glen Mills, Pa.), Gabby Dell’Aquilo (Bayville, N.Y.) and Caitlin Yaccarino (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.).
The Eagles, coached by Steve Fiske, captured their first ACC Crew of the Week honors in 2014.
BC won its first heat at the Knecht Cup, posting a time of 6:54.70 to edge Bucknell by a second and a half on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the Eagles then had their best time of the weekend, turning in a 6:46.03 clocking to defeat Tulsa by 1:23 in the semifinals.
Boston College will next be in action this Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., when it will face Holy Cross and Connecticut.
The 2014 ACC Rowing Championship will be held on Saturday, May 17, on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
