Eight ACC Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-America At-Large Honors


GREENSBORO, N.C. – Eight student-athletes from five different ACC institutions were named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Three student-athletes garnered at-large first-team accolades: Duke’s Lauren Blazing (field hockey), and Notre Dame’s Emma Reaney (swimming) and Gerek Meinhardt (fencing).

North Carolina’s Loren Shealy (field hockey), Notre Dame’s Ashley Armstrong (golf), Syracuse’s Kevin Rice (lacrosse) and Virginia Tech’s Devin Carter (wrestling) were named to the second team, while Duke’s Jordan Wolf (lacrosse) was selected to the third team.

The contingent includes two individual NCAA Champions and an individual runner-up, one led his team to a national championship and two more to the final four, and all advanced to the postseason in their respective sports.
