NC State’s Warren, Duke’s Parker receive season’s final honor
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State sophomore T.J. Warren has been voted the final Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week of the 2013-14 season, while Duke’s Jabari Parker was recognized as the ACC Rookie of the Week for a record-tying 10th time.
The Wolfpack’s Warren averaged 41.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a pair of NC State victories. The Durham, N.C., native scored 41 points on 16-of-22 shooting as NC State won at Pitt last Monday. He topped that performance by posting 42 points (14-of-23 from the floor, 14-of-17 from the line) and 13 rebounds in a win over Boston College in the regular-season finale. In the process, he became the seventh ACC player and the second Wolfpack player ever to score 40-plus points in back-to-back games.
Warren has scored more than 20 points in 26 of the 30 games he has played this season and has eclipsed the 30-point mark nine times.
Duke’s Parker averaged 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game as Duke split a pair of games with in-state rivals Wake Forest and North Carolina. He was 17-of-28 (.607) from the field and 13-of-16 (.813) from the foul line for the week while recording his league-leading 13th and 14th double-doubles of the season. Parker opened the week with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a road loss to Wake Forest Wednesday. He was 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line in the contest. Parker established a new career-high with 30 points to go along with 11 rebounds and blocks in a 93-81 win over No. 14 North Carolina. The Chicago native was 10-of-17 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the foul line in the victory.
Parker’s 10 Rookie of the Week selections ties the ACC record first set by Georgia Tech’s Kenny Anderson in 1990 and matched by North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough in 2006.
