GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College outfielder Chris Shaw has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Clemson’s Daniel Gossett earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Shaw keyed a 4-1 week for the Eagles by hitting .556 with five RBIs, 15 total bases and an .833 slugging percentage. The Lexington, Mass., sophomore helped Boston College to an ACC road series win at NC State, where his .571 batting average, five RBIs and 13 total bases led both teams as the Eagles took two of three games. It was the first road series win in ACC play for Boston College since April of 2011.
Shaw’s eight total bases in Saturday’s 7-5 win over the Wolfpack were a season team high for the Eagles. For the season, Shaw is batting .301 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 22 RBIs. He has walked 12 times and scored 12 runs while posting a .356 on-base percentage in 40 games.
Clemson’s Gossett pitched a three-hit shutout to earn the win in a 3-0 victory at Pitt on Saturday. The Lyman, S.C., junior allowed just three singles and one walk with seven strikeouts in his second career shutout. Only one opposing batter advanced to second base in a game that saw Gossett face just three batters above the minimum.
For the season, Gossett stands at 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA and a .183 opponents’ batting average. He has struck out 57 batters while walking 19 in 60 innings pitched over nine starts.
