Duke’s Marconcini, Maryland’s Stinnett honored
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke first baseman Chris Marconcini has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Maryland’s Jake Stinnett earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Marconcini, a redshirt junior from Brentwood, Tenn., hit .667 in the Blue Devils’ four games last week, going 10-for-15 with a pair of home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs. Marconcini, who also scored six runs and stole three bases, reached base 14 times in 19 total plate appearances. Marconcini, who raised his early-season batting average from .250 to .481, had at least one hit in each of Duke’s four games and multiple hits in three contests, including a career-high four hits in the Feb. 18 game versus UNC Greensboro.
Stinnett struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed just one hit without walking a batter while working eight innings in Maryland’s 3-0 win over Bryant on Saturday. The right-hander from Vista, Calif., retired the first 17 batters he faced and took a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh. Stinnett faced just 26 batters – two over the minimum – during his eight-inning stint.
