Jostens works with conference to produce unique trophy for title game
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Moments after the 2013 Dr Pepper Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Game reaches its conclusion, the head coach and team captains from the winning team will hold the spoils of victory high for all to behold.
Those attending Saturday night’s game at Bank of America Stadium and those watching nationally on ABC might notice that this year’s trophy has a new, unique look. Most won’t be aware of the tireless effort and attention to task it took to get the item to Charlotte, N.C., in time for this week’s ninth annual title game.
Oklahoma City based MTM Recognition hand-crafted the trophy in partnership with Jostens.
“We began conversations with the ACC on Sept. 25 and delivered the finished product on November 22,” said Aaron Hines, Director of Conference Awards Division at MTM. “It was quite an aggressive timeline, but we love challenges, especially when the finished piece is as beautiful as the new ACC Football Championship trophy.”
Armed with a rough idea from the ACC and assisted by MTM Recognition representatives and design team, the trophy features a detachable, lost wax bronze cast football with hand tooled, high polished ACC letting at top. The center of the award is made of bronze and plated in silver and acts as a pedestal for the ball above. Crystal wings extend from each side of the column reflecting the silver accents. A 32-inch base with custom bronze plates finish out the award.
Only the “football” itself will be presented by ACC Commissioner John Swofford during Saturday’s postgame ceremony, but the entire assembled trophy will be the ultimate prize permanently displayed by the winning school.
