North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider and Virginia’s Danielle Collins earn honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Male Tennis Player of the Week, while Virginia’s Danielle Collins was named ACC Female Player of the Week.

North Carolina’s Schneider, a freshman from Bloomington, Ind., went 4-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles last week. Schneider led the Tar Heels to a quartet of victories, including three over Top 25 opponents and two over Top 13-ranked teams.  Schneider beat three nationally-ranked singles players during the week (No. 22 Lloyd Glasspool of No. 7 Texas, No. 98 Robbie Mudge of No. 25 NC State and No. 48 Adam Lee of No. 13 Wake Forest).  He combined with fellow freshman Jack Murray to go 3-0 in doubles.  Schneider, ranked 32nd, improved to 13-1 in dual matches this spring and is now 25-3 overall during his freshman season, including fall tournament play.  He and Murray are now 11-1 in doubles, all in spring dual match play.

Virginia’s Collins played a key role in the Cavaliers’ victory over No. 13 Michigan this past week. The sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla, clinched the team victory against the Wolverines by defeating No. 20 Yonit Yurovsky, 6-1, 6-3. Against No. 12 Georgia, Collins evened the team score at three apiece, as she defeated No. 21 Moho Kowase, 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. The victories moved Collins’ singles record to 19-9 this season.
