ACC Tennis Players of the Week Announced

 

Notre Dame’s Eddy Covalschi and North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb earn recognition

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Eddy Covalschi and North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb have been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.

Notre Dame’s Covalschi, a freshman from Shelby Township, Mich., came through for his team in two high-pressure matches this weekend, Against No. 39 Minnesota, Covalschi overcame an early first-set deficit to defeat Jeremy Lynn to lead the Fighting Irish to a victory. Most impressively, Notre Dame’s upset of No. 8 Kentucky came down to Covalschi’s match. Playing on a four-court configuration, Covalschi’s match was the final singles match to be played in the 4-3 upset victory. Notre Dame’s win came down to his third set, in which Covalschi was down, 4-3. He went on to win the next three games, the set, and the match for the Irish. 

North Carolina’s Loeb, the No. 2 ranked singles player according to the ITA, posted a perfect 4-0 singles record and 3-0 doubles record in helping lead the Tar Heels  to a 4-0 record last week in dual matches. She surrendered only four points total in four singles matches (winning two matches – 6-0, 6-0). Loeb, a freshman from Ossining, N.Y., teamed up with classmate Hayley Carter, the 12th-ranked double teams in the nation, to win three matches, including two that finished up 6-0. Loeb is 23-1 in singles play this year and 17-3 in doubles.
