ACC Spring Football Highlighted With Seven Spring Games This Weekend


Greensboro, N.C. -- Spring football takes center stage this weekend as seven schools which will be competing for the 2014 ACC Football Championship will be holding their annual spring games and four others will be holding practices, scrimmages or events.

Clemson (4 p.m.), Florida State (3 p.m.), Miami (6 p.m.), North Carolina (3 p.m.), NC State (1 p.m.) and Virginia (1 p.m.) will conclude their 15 spring practice sessions with their annual spring games this Saturday.

Miami’s spring game is labeled the UNITE.14 Spring Game & Family Festival Presented by BankUnited on Saturday at Sun Life Stadium.

NC State’s spring game is the “Kay Yow Spring Football Game”, named in honor of its legendary women’s basketball coach.

Louisville, which will join the ACC on July 1, will finish its spring sessions one day earlier on Friday (7:30 p.m.)  with its Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Spring Game at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Additionally, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest will all have practices on Saturday.  

Pitt, which does not hold a spring game, will conclude its spring sessions Sunday, April 13, with an event billed as “The Pitt Football Field Pass.”  Running from 2-4 p.m., the event will be held at the Panthers' practice facility and includes a Kids Clinic, sessions on offensive and defensive strategy, and inside looks at Panthers recruiting process and weight training.

Georgia Tech will conclude its spring sessions on Friday, April 18, when the Yellow Jackets hold their annual spring game at Bobby Dodd Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. Syracuse will also finish up the same weekend, as the Orange will hold its spring game beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. 

Virginia Tech (2 p.m.) and Wake Forest (2 p.m.) will wrap up their spring drills a week later on Saturday, April 26 in Lane Stadium and BB&T Field, respectively.

Many of the schools are holding fan-friendly events and festivals in addition to their spring games so please check the individual school websites for their start times.

Eight ACC spring games will be available on either  ESPN, ESPNU or ESPN3. Defending national champion Florida State’s annual Garnet and Gold spring game this Saturday in Doak Campbell Stadium will be televised by ESPN (3 p.m.).  Clemson’s spring game in Death Valley, also Saturday, will be televised by ESPNU with a 4 p.m. kickoff.  Miami and North Carolina’s spring games Saturday are available on ESPN3.

Georgia Tech (April 18) and Syracuse’s (April 19) spring games will be also be available on ESPN3 as will Virginia Tech’s (April 26).

Duke, which got the jump on everyone in the conference in spring practice this year, held its spring game on Saturday, March 1. Boston College held its annual Jay McGillis Spring Game last Saturday (April 5) at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill.
