Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop & Bailey Schinella receive recognition
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State’s Bailey Schinella has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while teammate Lacey Waldrop earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Florida State’s Waldrop continued her strong 2014 season by recording three victories, including two over ACC foe Boston College. Waldrop allowed only one run in 16.0 innings of work and surrendered just one hit in two of her three appearances. The junior from Chester, Va., finished the week with a 0.44 ERA, allowing seven hits, one run and seven walks while striking out 20. Waldrop tossed two complete games in the BC series as the ‘Noles swept an ACC opponent for the second straight weekend. Waldrop improved to 18-2 on the season and now has the ACC’s lowest ERA (0.57) and batting average allowed (.162).
Schinella, a junior from Valrico, Fla., batted .545 (6-for-11) with one home run, four runs scored, four RBI and five walks. Schinella posted a slugging percentage of .818 and reached base at a .688 clip in the five Seminole victories. Her solo home run in game two of a doubleheader against the BC Eagles was the first run of the game as FSU went on to a 5-1 victory. In the circle, Schinella was brought in to pitch the final 0.2 innings against North Florida on March 19 and recorded two strikeouts as the Seminoles won 8-0. Schinella is currently on a five-game hitting streak and has drawn at least one walk in each of her last five games.
