Pitt’s Patterson named Player of the Week; Syracuse’s Ennis earn Rookie honor
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Pitt senior Lamar Patterson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse’s Tyler Ennis earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Patterson averaged 21.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in Pitt’s neutral site wins over Texas Tech, Stanford and Duquesne. The Lancaster, Pa., native was named the Progressive Legends Most Valuable Player after leading Pitt to consecutive 20-point victories over Texas Tech and Stanford in Brooklyn, N.Y. With 23 points versus Texas Tech on Nov. 25, followed by 24 points versus Stanford on Nov. 26, Patterson set scoring career highs in consecutive games. For the week, he shot 56.8 percent from the floor (21-of-37), 47.1 percent from 3-point range (8-of-17) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (15-of-18) in helping Pitt improve to 7-0 on the year.
Ennis helped Syracuse to the EA Sports Maui Invitational title. Against Minnesota, Ennis had 12 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds while going 10-of-11 from the foul line. The freshman guard had a career-high 28 points, four rebounds, four assist and three steals in the Orange’s win over California while going 8-of-8 from the line. In the championship game against Baylor, Ennis had 11 points, a career-best nine assists, and four steals. In the three games, Ennis averaged 17.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals. He was 20-of-22 from the free-throw line.
