Pitt’s Nkanata and Miami’s Wimbley recognized after NCAA-ranking performances

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt senior Carvin Nkanata has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Men’s Performer of the Week, while Miami freshman Shakima Wimbley earned ACC Female Performer of the Week honors.

Nkanata highlighted the competition in the 400-meter dash at last weekend’s Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge, breaking the meet record and matching the current NCAA top time of 46.36. Nkanata set a season best en route to finishing first in the 400-meter. The Summersville, S.C., native was .05 seconds away from breaking his personal best time of 46.31 set in 2013 at the SPIRE Invitational.

Miami’s Wimbley, also competing in the Nittany Lion Challenge and making her collegiate debut, won the women’s 400-meter and anchored Miami’s 4x400-meter relay to a first place finish with a pair of NCAA top-five ranking times. Wimbley’s winning 400-meter time of 53.78 currently ranks third in the nation. Winbley also helped Miami turn in the fifth-best 4x400-meter relay time in the NCAA with a strong anchor leg as the Hurricanes placed first in the race with a time of 3:38.66.
