Duke’s Jabari Parker sweeps Player and Rookie honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke freshman Jabari Parker has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week for his performances in the Blue Devils’ league wins over Wake Forest and Boston College.
The ACC Player of the Week recognition is the second for Parker, who shared the honor with Boston College’s Olivier Hanlan on Nov. 18. The ACC Rookie of the Week honor is Parker’s seventh of the season.
Parker averaged 25.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game, as Duke improved to 19-5 overall and 8-3 in the ACC with wins over Wake Forest (83-63) and Boston College (89-68). The Chicago native was 20-of-27 (.741) from the field en route to his 13th and 14th 20-point scoring games of the season. In the win over Wake Forest, Parker recorded 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting while adding eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. He closed out the week by setting career-highs in points (29), field goals (12) and rebounds (16) at Boston College.
Parker became just the fourth Duke player under Coach Mike Krzyzewski to register at least 29 points and 16 rebounds in the same game, joining Mark Alarie (1984), Christian Laettner (1992) and Shelden Williams (2006).
