NC State’s Austin, Boston College’s Chin recognized
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State’s Brett Austin has been named the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Boston College’s Andrew Chin was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
Austin hit .455 for the week as the Wolfpack clinched a bid as the last team into this week’s ACC Championship. One of three NC State captains for 2014, Austin rose to the occasion on the final regular season weekend, catching both ends of a doubleheader at Virginia Tech that the Wolfpack swept to secure its postseason bid. The junior catcher from Charlotte, North Carolina, set a career high with four RBIs in the Pack’s midweek win over Radford, before hitting for a series cycle against the Hokies with a pair of homers, a triple in the second game of the doubleheader, and two doubles in the opener.
Chin picked up a complete-game victory at Clemson on Friday, holding the Tigers to one run on two hits. He retired 10 straight batters between the fifth and eighth innings and 14 of the final 16 faced. The native of Newton, Massachusetts, only allowed five Tigers on base for the game, the first two-hitter by an Eagles pitcher since 2005 and the first complete game since 2010.
