70 ACC Rowers Honored as CRCA Scholar-Athletes

League has record number of CRCA Scholar-Athletes

Greensboro, N.C.—The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has honored 70 rowers from the Atlantic Coast as 2016 CRCA Scholar-Athletes.

The total of 70 honorees from the ACC’s nine institutions that sponsor rowing, is the highest total in league history, slightly ahead of the previous high of 68 honored last year. The average of 7.78 honorees per school is also the best in league history.

CRCA Scholar Athletes must be in their second, third or fourth year of school and had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for their careers, and rowed in their institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.

Louisville led all ACC schools with 14 honorees followed by Clemson with 12 and Notre Dame
and Syracuse with nine each. Miami and North Carolina both had seven honorees followed by Virginia (5), Duke (4) and Boston College (3).

A total of 10 rowers captured their third straight honor in  Erin Ferguson and Anna Skochdopole of Clemson; Cynthia Doyle, Katie Nord, and Hanna Spittel of Louisville; Sara Aschebrock and Caitlin Lowe of Miami and Sarah Kappers, Kathleen Skorcz and Alex Techar of Notre Dame.

Twenty-six ACC rowers repeated as CRCA Scholar-Athletes. In addition to the 10 three-time honorees, Grace Grunau of Boston College; Ashley Robinson and Paula Wesselman of Clemson; Phoebe Donovan of Duke; Kylie Noltemeyer of Louisville; Khamani Williamson of Miami; Victoria McGee of North Carolina; Catherine Wagner of Notre Dame; Kelsey Adams, Deidre Fitzpatrick, Saydee McQuay, Olivia Mennillo and Kari Tomeny of Syracuse and Tess Dikkers, Jo Gurman and Karen Schulte of Virginia all earned repeat selection.
