ACC Announces 2018 All-Conference Softball Team and Awards

Florida State’s Jessie Warren named Player of the Year
 
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State’s Jessie Warren has been named the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and headlines the 2018 All-ACC Team as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
 
Teammate Kylee Hanson was selected as the Pitcher of the Year, and Seminole rookie Sydney Sherrill was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. North Carolina’s Taylor Wike was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Pitt’s Holly Aprile received Coach of the Year honors.
 
The All-ACC Teams and individual season awards were selected by a vote of the conference’s 12 head coaches.
 
A senior third baseman, Warren earned her second straight ACC Player of the Year honor. The Tampa, Florida, native is the ACC’s career leader in home runs (78) and RBI (257). Warren posted a batting average of .403, with a league-leading 16 home runs and is tied for the ACC lead with Sherrill in RBI with 54. It is the 10th Player of the Year honor for a Seminole pitcher, and the fourth in the last five years.
 
Hanson, a redshirt senior from Jupiter, Florida, owns a league-best 0.94 earned run average, and ranks ninth nationally with at least 1.0 innings pitcher per game. She ranks first in the ACC in opponent batting average (.134), second in wins (25), and third in strikeouts with 194. The Pitcher of the Year honor is the fifth straight for a Seminole Pitcher, and the sixth overall.
 
A senior shortstop, Wike posted a fielding percentage of .945 on the year, with 77 putouts 95 assists. The Hiddenite, North Carolina, native also has a batting average of .354, with 56 hits and 33 RBI.
 
Aprile received her first ACC Coach of the Year honor as the Panthers clinched their first-ever Coastal Division championship. Pitt owns a 30-17-1 overall record, and a 16-6 mark in conference play on the year.
