GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Brett Kinneman has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Wake Forest’s Griffin Roberts was selected as Pitcher of the Week.
ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the second straight ACC Player of the Week honor for Kinneman and second of his career, and it is the first for Roberts.
Kinneman continued his hot start to the season at the plate, as he led NC State during the week with a .474 batting average. He collected a team-high nine hits for the week, including three home runs as he remains the NCAA leader in that category with eight for the season.
The junior outfielder from York, Pennsylvania, hit a pair of home runs in Monday’s win against Air Force to log six home runs in four games. His streak of consecutive games with a home run ended at four, as he doubled and singled against Bowling Green on Friday. He homered in Saturday’s contest against Campbell as the Pack scored 21 runs in the contest. He ended the week second in the NCAA with 25 RBIs and tied for third in total hits with 24 this season.
Roberts had one of the best outings of his career on Friday night, as the junior set new career highs with 8.0 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts as the Demon Deacons beat UMass Lowell, 8-1. The Midlothian, Virginia, native didn’t allow a baserunner until a fifth-inning walk, and the only run he allowed came via a walk, infield single, groundout, and fielder’s choice.
On the year, Roberts has struck out 30 batters in 20.1 innings, and has held opponents to a .169 batting average.
