All-ACC Academic Football Teams Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) — Atlantic Coast Conference Jim Tatum Award winner Braxton Berrios of Miami and National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy recipient Micah Kiser of Virginia headline the 70-member 2017 All-ACC Academic Football Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

All 14 ACC Football member institutions were represented on the team. Duke led all schools with 13 selections, followed by Pitt (9), Clemson (8), Syracuse (6), Virginia (6), Louisville (5), NC State (5), Wake Forest (5), Miami (3), Virginia Tech (3), Boston College (2), Florida State (2), Georgia Tech (2) and North Carolina (1).

The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football Team every year since 1954.  The team was chosen from a pool of 144 ACC Football student-athletes who were nominated by their schools.

Wake Forest quarterback John Wolford and Duke cornerback Bryon Fields Jr. were selected to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in their careers, becoming the 26th and 27th student-athletes to accomplish the feat.  As a senior, Wolford led the ACC in pass efficiency (158.0 rating), was third in total offense (322.9 ypg) and ranked fourth in passing yards per game (266.0 ypg).

A two-time Academic All-District and Academic All-ACC selection, Berrios is a double major in finance and entrepreneurship at Miami, and has been a Dean’s List member every semester of his college career.  In December, he was honored with the ACC’s 2017 Tatum Award, which is presented annually to the top senior student-athlete among the league's football players. Berrios helped lead the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record and a berth in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Kiser, a first-team Walter Camp All-American and the league’s top tackler for the past three seasons, became the fourth player from an ACC school and the second in the last four years to earn the Campbell Trophy, which honors academic success, football performance and community leadership.

Nineteen members of the All-ACC Academic Football Team also earned some form of all-conference recognition.  Kiser, Clemson center Justin Falcinelli, Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, Pitt offensive tackle Brian O’Neill, Pitt punter Ryan Winslow and Wake Forest tight end Cam Serigne were all first-team All-ACC performers.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
