Jacobs and Wooten Named ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week

Jacobs leads ND to upset win at No. 11 Clemson; Wooten records two shutouts

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame sophomore forward Natalie Jacobs has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while NC State junior goalkeeper Sydney Wooten is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Jacobs led the Irish to a 4-2 upset victory at No. 11 Clemson on Saturday evening. The Coto de Caza, California, native played a role in three of Notre Dame’s season-high four goals finishing the night with a career-high four points (1g, 2a). Jacobs found Jennifer Westendorf early to get the Irish on the board first at the 7:01 mark, before scoring the game winner in the 59th minute. Jacobs added her second assist on Notre Dame’s final tally in the 68th minute. Prior to Saturday night’s meeting, the Tigers had allowed just two goals.
 
Wooten played all 110 minutes in goal in double-overtime scoreless draw against Virginia and all 90 in a 1-0 win over Western Carolina. She posted back-to-back shutouts and totaled 10 saves on the weekend, including a season-high six against the Cavaliers.  
 
Notre Dame and NC State both moved up the Soccer America rankings this week as the Irish jumped back into the poll at No. 18 and the Wolfpack moved up two spots to No. 23. Overall, a national best eight ACC teams are ranked this week, including four in the top 12. Duke leads the way at No. 5, followed by No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 12 Florida State, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 22 Clemson and No. 23 NC State.
