GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Edward Opoku has been named ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Notre Dame’s Felicien Dumas was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week.
Opoku tallied his first career multi-goal game on Friday night, notching both goals in a 2-1 win at rival Virginia Tech. He opened the scoring in the eighth minute and added the second just after halftime. The junior forward from Millbrook, New York, moved into a tie for first in the ACC with five goals in five games played, and is tied for the national lead with 2.4 points per game.
Dumas led a strong defensive effort and tallied a pair of assists in a 3-0 win over No. -/18 NC State on Friday. The Irish defense limited NC State to just three official shots on goal in the contest to log Notre Dame’s ACC-leading third shutout of 2017 in the process. Offensively, the junior left back served converted corner kicks in the 31st and 39th minutes to account for the first two Irish goals of the victory against the Wolfpack. Dumas leads all ACC defenders with five assists in five starts this season and has notched at least one point in four of the first five Notre Dame games.
