2015 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship First Round Wraps Up

CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – The second round field for the 2015 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship in Cary, N.C. is set, as Florida State, Louisville and NC State will advance for a chance to earn a berth in the quarterfinals.

No. 10 Florida State will take on No. 7 Notre Dame at 12 p.m., No. 13 Louisville will face No. 5 Clemson at 3 p.m. and No. 14 NC State will battle No. 6 Georgia Tech at 3 p.m.

The Seminoles earned a berth in the second round by knocking off No. 15 Pitt, 4-0. Florida State quickly grabbed the doubles point against the Panthers before notching straight-set victories at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Emily Fanning earned the clinching point for the Seminoles.

NC State registered the victory over No. 11 Wake Forest, 4-2, in thrilling fashion. The Wolfpack captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before taking victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, breaking a 2-2 deadlock. Elisha Hande sealed the match for the Wolfpack.

Louisville, competing in its first ACC Championship, registered its first ACC Championship win against No. 12 Syracuse, 4-3. The Cardinals struck first in the match by earning the doubles point. Louisville then split its singles matches, taking No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 to take the match.  Chloe Willetts earned the clinching win in a three-set nailbiter.
